Edo Sports Commission and Insurance FC Mourn the Loss of Coach Sebastian Brodricks Imasuen

In a solemn atmosphere, the Edo State Sports Commission and Bendel Insurance Football Club are grieving the passing of the esteemed Coach Sebastian Brodricks Imaseun.

The revered football icon, Sebastian Brodricks Imasuen, succumbed to the hands of death in the early hours of today, as confirmed by sources within his family. It was disclosed that the late coach valiantly battled a prolonged bout of stroke before his eventual passing.

 

The Edo Sports Commission, through a statement signed by Olympian Yusuf Alli, extended heartfelt condolences and expressed profound sadness at the loss of the accomplished World Cup-winning coach. The statement emphasized Imasuen’s significant impact on Edo Sports and Bendel Insurance FC.

“In losing Coach Sebastian Brodricks Imasuen, we mourn not only a great personality but a football tactician and a proud son of Edo land. His talents and unwavering patriotism brought honor to Edo state and Nigeria at large.

 

“He notably secured Nigeria’s first Under 17 FIFA World Cup during the ‘China 85’ edition. Furthermore, he will forever be remembered for his iconic free-kick winning goal, securing Bendel Insurance FC a 3-2 victory over Mighty Jets of Jos in Ibadan, clinching the Challenge Cup in 1972.”

Olympian Yusuf Alli, in expressing deep sorrow, underlined that Coach Sebastian Brodricks Imasuen’s legacy will forever be engraved in gold for his dedicated service to his homeland. The commission extended its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, offering prayers for strength during this challenging time.

 

Late Coach Brodricks Imasuen etched his name in history as the first Nigerian and African coach to secure a FIFA World Cup victory. His leadership guided the Nigerian school boys to triumph in the inaugural FIFA Kodak World Cup, securing a memorable 2-0 victory over West Germany in China.
