In a significant development ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election scheduled for September 21, Barrister Olumide Akpata, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has secured the Labour Party (LP) ticket to run for governor.
Akpata emerged victorious with 316 votes, outpacing his rivals in the party’s primary election. Barr. Kenneth Imansuangbon and Professor Sunday Eromosele each received 7 votes, while Sergius Ogun garnered 4 votes.

He commended all the aspirants for their sportsmanship and urged the party’s nominee, Olumide Akpata, to involve his competitors in his campaign.
In his acceptance speech, Akpata honored the memory of the late Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. He described Akeredolu as a mentor and a predecessor in his role at the NBA, whose path he has endeavored to follow.
