The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has issued a stern warning to the All Progressive Congress (APC), stating plans for a boycott of its activities if demands are not met within a seven-day ultimatum.

In a communique released following an emergency meeting at the NUJ State Secretariat, the Union demanded an apology and restitution for damaged equipment belonging to its members, incurred during an incident at an APC collation center in Benin City on February 17, 2024.

The key resolutions from the meeting include:

Edo state APC leadership failure to meet the Union’s demands within the stipulated seven days, the NUJ will initiate a boycott of all APC activities within the state.

Journalists are reminded to promptly settle their dues for the 2023/2024 period. Additionally, those awaiting their NUJ National ID cards are required to pay N20,000 to the National Secretariat for card issuance.

The Union pledged full participation in an upcoming Human Capacity Development Training on Investigative Journalism and Fire Safety/Prevention, organized by the Safer Africa Team.

The success of the Edo State Journalists Classic Dinner was recognized, with special commendation to NUJ National President, Comrade Chris ISIGUZO, for gracing the event.

The Chairman of the Union, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, received accolades for his leadership, with members affirming their unwavering support for the development initiatives under his stewardship.
