The Nigeria Civil Society, in partnership with UK Aid, has concluded preparations for the establishment of the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room and the final training of Observers ahead of the 2024 Edo Governorship Election. The election is set to take place on Saturday, 21st September 2024.

The strategic meeting, held at the Protea Hotel in Benin City, drew key stakeholders, including members of the EyesofAfrika Crew, the President of Congo, officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representatives from the British European Team, and various members of the Nigeria Civil Society.

The focus of the training was to equip Observers with the knowledge and skills necessary for their duties on election day, covering when and how to effectively execute their responsibilities. Special emphasis was placed on maintaining impartiality, ensuring transparency, and following set guidelines to support a fair and credible electoral process.

During the session, an INEC official confirmed that security personnel had been deployed and logistical arrangements were in place to ensure the smooth movement of both security forces and INEC officials. The official highlighted the importance of these efforts in guaranteeing a peaceful and successful election.

With these final preparations complete, stakeholders are optimistic that the Edo Governorship Election will proceed smoothly, maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
