A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the remand of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chieftain, Ganiyu Oyedepo, popularly known as Koko Zaria, for allegedly assaulting Nollywood actor, Alhaji Ade Adele, also known as Baba Lawori.

Oyedepo was arraigned on charges of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), leading Chief Magistrate B. Sonuga to remand him in prison custody.

Prosecutor Morufu Animashaun, representing the FCIID’s legal department, told the court that the assault occurred on June 5, 2024, in Idimu, Lagos, where Oyedepo, along with some of his associates, allegedly conspired to attack Adele. During the incident, one of Oyedepo’s associates, who is still at large, reportedly injured Adele by striking him on the head with a bottle.

The offences, which contravene sections 411, 173, and 168 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, carry serious legal consequences. Oyedepo faces charges under Section 411 for conspiracy to commit felony, and under Section 173 for assault occasioning harm.

The court has adjourned the case for further proceedings.
