The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum will be introduced for secondary schools across Nigeria by September 2024. This declaration was made during the ongoing 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.

“We are working hard to ensure that a new curriculum is introduced for secondary schools by September,” Mamman stated.

Prof. Mamman highlighted that the curriculum development exercise has been in progress for the past year. A stakeholders meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2024, to finalize the plans.

“It is our plan that by September, this programme will be implemented in all schools, public and private,” the minister added.

This initiative follows recent concerns raised by the National Senior Secondary School Education Commission about the poor state of senior secondary schools in the country. The commission has called for collaboration to address the various challenges plaguing the secondary education sector, including infrastructural deficits, unqualified teachers, an outdated curriculum, and inadequate libraries and laboratories.

The introduction of a new curriculum aims to tackle these issues and enhance the quality of education provided to students nationwide.

Further details on the new curriculum and its implementation will be provided as the plans progress.
