In a significant move, the Edo State House of Assembly has lifted the five-month suspension of lawmakers Donald Okogbe (PDP, Akoko-Edo II) and Adeh Isibor. The suspension followed a failed leadership change within the Assembly.

Okogbe had notably declined to sign the impeachment letter against the reinstated Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. In addition, Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionnwon II) was also suspended indefinitely for his alleged involvement in plotting to impeach the Speaker and other principal officers. However, Bright was reinstated in June 2024 after showing remorse, leaving Okogbe and Isibor under suspension until now.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, announced the lawmakers’ pardon during Wednesday’s plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Benin City. The Speaker also extended his congratulations to the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his recent victory in the Edo State governorship election.

Agbebaku urged Okpebholo to remain vigilant against sycophants as he prepares for his swearing-in on November 12, 2024, stressing that his victory belongs to the people of Edo State, not just the All Progressives Congress.

The Assembly also approved a 57-day sitting calendar for the second quarter of the second session of the 8th Assembly.
