In a dramatic turn of events at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been handed off to another judge. The Honorable Justice Binta Nyako recused herself from presiding over the case due to an outburst from Kanu, who expressed lack of confidence in her.
During the proceedings on Tuesday, Kanu boldly declared his mistrust in the judge and took charge of the court session, insisting that Justice Binta Nyako should step down from the case immediately. Despite objections from the government’s legal representative, the judge stood by her decision to withdraw, citing a Supreme Court judgment.
Consequently, Justice Binta Nyako has transferred the case file back to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court for reassignment to a new judge. Following this development, Kanu has been returned to the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
