The Nigeria Civil Society Safety and Security Review (NCSSR) in partnership with the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) organized a one-day sensitization rally today to promote peaceful elections in Edo State. The rally, themed “Vote Don’t Fight, There’s Life After Election,” aimed to encourage citizens to cast their votes without violence.
The rally, which took place in major streets of Benin City, culminated at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat, where speakers emphasized the importance of a peaceful election. They urged citizens to vote for their preferred candidates without resorting to bloodshed and advised youths not to be used as tools of violence.
The group called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election. They emphasized that Edo people can exercise their right to vote without losing their lives.
Receiving the group, NUJ Edo State Council Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, appealed to stakeholders to allow a peaceful election, hoping for a violence-free process where results are counted and winners declared peacefully.
This rally is a significant step towards promoting a peaceful and credible gubernatorial election in Edo State, scheduled for September 21, 2024
