We are now going to have good petrol while the engines of your vehicles will last longer – Dangote

By Osaiyekemwen Confidence

The Dangote Refinery in Lagos has officially commenced the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, according to a report by EyesofAfrika TV. The refinery, which boasts a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is now supplying high-quality fuel to the Nigerian market.

Aliko Dangote, the owner of the refinery, announced the start of production during a press conference on Tuesday. He described the day as a celebration for Nigerians, emphasizing that the petrol produced at the facility meets global standards and will contribute to longer-lasting vehicle engines.

“We are now going to have good petrol while the engines of your vehicles will last longer. You will not be having an engine issue, which a lot of us were having. It won’t happen at all,” Dangote stated. “The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world; US, America, we will make sure that nobody will beat us in terms of quality.”

Dangote also noted that once his company finalizes arrangements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the petrol will be available in the market. “As soon as we finalize with the NNPCL, our product will start going into the market,” he said.

He further highlighted the broader economic impact of the refinery’s operations, including restoring industry and manufacturing, promoting import substitution, saving foreign exchange, earning foreign exchange, stabilizing the naira, and ultimately helping to reduce inflation and the cost of living in Nigeria.

The commencement of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery is seen as a significant step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel and stabilizing the domestic fuel market.

Aliko Dangote, owner of the Dangote Refinery, discussed the pricing and market entry of petrol produced at his 650,000 barrels per day facility during a press briefing on Tuesday. The refinery is poised to supply Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to the Nigerian market pending final agreements with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Dangote expressed optimism about the swift availability of the product, stating, “Our PMS can be in filling stations within the next 48 hours depending on NNPCL.” This suggests that the introduction of Dangote-produced petrol could be imminent, contingent on finalizing logistics with NNPCL.

When asked about the pricing strategy for the petrol from his refinery, Dangote explained that it is a coordinated effort overseen by the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “It is an arrangement which is designed and approved by the Federal Executive Council,” he said. “As soon as it is finalized, which President Tinubu is pushing, we could start rolling into the market today or tomorrow.”

Dangote highlighted the superior quality of the petrol produced at his refinery, noting that it meets international standards and will benefit consumers by reducing engine problems. “It’s a celebration day for Nigerians because we are now going to have good petrol while the engines of your vehicles will last longer. You will not be having an engine issue, which a lot of us were having. It won’t happen at all,” he emphasized. “The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world; US, America, we will make sure that nobody will beat us in terms of quality.”

The commencement of petrol production at the Dangote Refinery marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in fuel production and reduce reliance on imports. As the final steps are being taken to launch the product into the market, Nigerians are keenly watching the developments, hopeful for a positive impact on fuel availability and engine performance.
