In a decisive move, the Legislative Arm of Egor Local Government Area in Edo State has impeached Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, the council’s chairman, citing allegations of budget padding and other acts of gross misconduct.

The impeachment proceedings were initiated following a vote of no confidence against Hon. Ogbemudia during a session chaired by Godwin Uwadiae Edigin, the Leader of the House and Councillor representing Ward 3.

Rt. Hon. Stella Osagioduwa Ogida, Councillor of Ward 2, spearheaded the motion for the no-confidence vote, highlighting serious grievances. “This is the 10th month since our inauguration, and we, the Councillors of Egor Legislative Arm, do not have our offices. Furthermore, we have uncovered the padding of the council’s supplementary budget amounting to N1.7 billion,” she asserted. She also criticized the chairman for bypassing councilors in the budget preparation and approval processes.

Seconding the motion, Hon. Ambassador Elliot Inneh, representing Ward 9, expressed disappointment over the chairman’s actions. “We discovered that the chairman, in collaboration with the former Leader of the House, manipulated the budget from its initial N6.054 billion to an unauthorized N7.896 billion,” he disclosed.

Following a voice vote called by Leader Edigin, a decisive majority supported the motion for impeachment, marking the end of Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia’s tenure as chairman of Egor LGA.
