Marvelous Omobayo Appointed as new Edo Deputy Governor

In response to the impeachment of Comrade Philip Shaibu as deputy governor of Edo State earlier today, April 8, 2024, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, has administered the oath of office to Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor.

According to information gathered by Eyesofafrika TV, the swearing-in ceremony for the new Deputy Governor, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, is scheduled to take place at the Festival Hall of the Edo Government House, Benin City.

During today’s Assembly session at 9:41 am, a decisive vote of 18 in favor and 1 against, among the 20 members present, led to the impeachment of the former deputy governor. The speaker was prepared to cast the deciding vote in the event of a tie.

Shaibu’s impeachment followed an investigation by a seven-man panel led by Justice Stephen Omonuwa (Rtd), which found him guilty of disclosing official secrets.

Born on July 19, 1986, the newly appointed Edo State Deputy Governor, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, hails from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, bringing with him a distinguished career in the oil and gas sector as an engineer.

With academic qualifications including a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Godwins brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.

As a registered member of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), he exemplifies professionalism and dedication to his field.

Currently serving as a Senior Maintenance Engineer in Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, Godwins has been instrumental in expanding operations and delivering exemplary services in the South South region.

Beyond his professional achievements, Godwins has demonstrated a commitment to community engagement and political involvement in his local government, earning the trust of constituents and fostering unity across political divides.
