In a recent development, President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Dr. Dayo Mobereola as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), inaugurating a fresh era of leadership with a tenure of four years, which may be extended.

The decision comes after the conclusion of Mr. Bashir Jamoh’s term as the head of NIMASA.

With an impressive academic and professional track record, Dr. Mobereola enters the position with extensive expertise in transport economics, holding both a Ph.D. and an M.Sc. from the University of Wales, UK. His significant contributions to the field are acknowledged through his fellowships with the Chartered Institute of Transport in England and Nigeria.

Dr. Mobereola’s experience encompasses key leadership roles, notably as the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) between 2003 and 2015, and his service as Commissioner for Transportation in Lagos State from 2015 to 2016. His international experience includes pivotal positions in the private sector, such as Deputy Managing Director and Project Development Director at AFM Consulting Plc in London, and as a Senior Economist at British Petroleum Shipping Limited, London.

Leveraging his vast experience, President Tinubu is confident that Dr. Mobereola will effectively guide NIMASA in advancing maritime safety, fostering environmental protection, and enhancing the maritime sector’s role in the economic growth of Nigeria.
