Niger State Government Renames Minna Airport after Tinubu

By Osaiyekemwen Confidence

The Niger State Government has decided to rename the Minna International Airport to Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, in honor of the esteemed politician and former governor of Lagos State. The airport, previously known as Dr Abubakar Imam International Airport, now bears the name of one of Nigeria’s most influential political figures.

The decision was announced by the state’s commissioner for Information and strategies, Hon. Binta Mamman, during a briefing with journalists in Minna, Niger State. This announcement coincides with the anticipated visit of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu to Minna, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the Agricultural Revolution Project and commission the newly named airport. Additionally, President Tinubu will lay the foundation for the Hajj Terminal, highlighting the government’s commitment to infrastructure development.

The renaming of the airport symbolizes the recognition of Tinubu’s contributions to Nigerian politics and his influence in shaping the nation’s trajectory. It also reflects the state government’s efforts to commemorate individuals who have made significant impacts on the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria.

The Commissioner highlighted the rapid progress achieved under the Mohammed Umar Bago administration, with various projects, including the procurement of 5,000 pieces of agricultural equipment and the establishment of an agro-processing free zone. These initiatives underscore Niger State’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in agricultural innovation and economic development.

Moreover, the newly renamed airport is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering transportation infrastructure in the region. With plans to operate as an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja and serve as a cargo airport, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport is poised to facilitate economic growth and enhance connectivity within and beyond Niger State.

As President Tinubu prepares to embark on this historic visit, it serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts between the federal and state governments in driving progress and development initiatives across Nigeria. The commissioning of key projects and the renaming of the airport mark a significant milestone in Niger State’s journey towards sustainable growth and prosperity.
