Civil society members, primarily from the Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO), have launched a peaceful protest in Benin under the banner: ‘Tinubu End the Suffering and Hunger in Nigeria protest.’
Following a General Assembly held on February 10, 2024, in Benin, these members gave the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to address the nation’s hunger crisis, warning of mass protests if left unattended.
Today, protesters convened at the heart of the city – Ring Road – and peacefully marched through New Benin and other streets in the metropolis.
Their current trajectory is towards Uselu Share, Ugbowo axis along the Benin-Lagos Expressway.
Accompanied by revolutionary tunes like Raski Mono’s ‘Under Pressure Nigeria, Under Pressure’ blaring from loudspeakers, demonstrators brandished placards with messages such as ‘Cost of living in Nigeria is killing us,’ and chanted slogans like ‘Hunger in the land is too much; enough is enough.’
