By Austen Akhagbeme

Renowned grassroots politician, philanthropist, and televangelist, Dr. Azemhe Azena, has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the upcoming Edo State election.

In a tense contest held in Benin on Friday, Dr. Azemhe secured the NNPP ticket with 211 votes, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in Edo politics.

The declaration of Dr. Azemhe as the winner by the primary election committee, led by former Ogun state NNPP Governorship candidate, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, elicited jubilation across the state.

Peter Okoeguale emerged as the runner-up with 100 votes, following the keenly contested primary held at the Depraisery event center on Ugbor Road, Benin City. Rev. Sebastian Iyere and Balogun Engeyemhe secured 25 and 17 votes respectively.

Dr. Azemhe Azena, formerly a chieftain of the Labour Party and the first to declare his gubernatorial ambition in LP, enjoys widespread popularity, particularly among the youth population in Edo state. He serves as the Regional Pastor of Omega Fire Ministry South-South Region and hails from Okpekpe, Etsako-East in the Edo North senatorial zone.
