By Osaiyekemwen Confidence

In a groundbreaking move, the Edo State Government has revealed its strategy to address the fuel crisis by installing charging stations strategically across the state in preparation for the introduction of electric vehicles. This initiative marks the initial phase of the state’s comprehensive clean energy project.

The announcement came during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oando Clean Energy Limited. The collaboration aims to execute clean energy projects, including the introduction of an electric bus transit service and the development of a substantial 175MW wind energy project.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., expressed the government’s dedication to providing every community in the state with access to clean energy. Governor Obaseki emphasized that embracing clean energy aligns with global trends, positioning Edo State as a trailblazer among other states.

He stated, “We have found a partner in Oando Energy. We are happy, and we will make sure that we will keep our side of the agreement.”

The Commissioner for Mining and Energy in Edo State, Dr. Ojeifoh Enaholo, disclosed that the electric bus scheme, implemented in phases, will commence with five buses during the initial phase. Charging stations equipped with all necessary facilities for vehicle batteries will be strategically installed.

Furthermore, Dr. Enaholo outlined that the wind energy project will kick off with a pilot scheme, marking a significant step toward revolutionizing the state’s electricity sector.

This ambitious initiative not only addresses the immediate fuel crisis but also underscores Edo State’s commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions for the future
