17 New Chieftaincy Titles Unveiled by Oba Ewuare II in Anticipation of 2023 Igue Festival”

In anticipation of the upcoming 2023 annual Igue Festival, also recognized as Ugie, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the revered Oba of Benin, has announced the conferment of 17 new chieftaincy titles to deserving individuals.

The elevation of these esteemed individuals is a gesture of recognition for their unwavering loyalty and dedicated service to the community. The announcement was conveyed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba of Benin, Osaigbovo Iguobaro, on Sunday, December 17, 2023, in Benin City.

 

Among the newly appointed chiefs, Chief Ekhorovbiye Oviasogie has been honored with the title of Uwangue of Benin, while Chief Adanihuomwan Igbinovia receives the prestigious Eribo of Benin title.

Additionally, the statement highlights other notable elevations, including Chief Osamwonyi Osagiede as the Ovienrioba of Benin, and Chief Orobosa Enoma as the Osague of Benin. Chief Edegbe Ugbogbo is now recognized as the Olaye of Benin, and Chief Uyigue Ugiagbe assumes the title of Obaroduagbon of Benin.

 

The list continues with Chief Amadin Stevens becoming the Obamariaye of Benin, Chief Uyiekpen Ajayi named the Aiwerioba of Benin, and Chief Joseph Inuaghata bestowed the title of Aiyobazogie of Benin. Further elevations include Chief Friday Omoragbon as the Osaguobadiaye of Benin, Chief Amadin Osayande as the Ogieroba of Benin, and Chief Osayawe Odia as the Eriyo of Benin.

The statement concludes with the announcement of Chief Osamede Omorogieva as the U’se of Benin, Chief Enoghayinagbon as the Obamedo of Benin, Chief Samuel Ehigie as the Aitiloba of Benin, and Chief Osadebamwen Ediae, along with Chief Godwin Ekhorutomwen, both assuming the title of Obazumamwen of Benin.

 

During the Ekponmwanbor (Thanksgiving) traditional rites at the Oba Palace, palace Chiefs, accompanied by their families, friends, well-wishers, and other palace functionaries, paid heartfelt tributes to Oba Ewuare II in appreciation of his leadership.
