Sweeping Changes in Nigerian Aviation Leadership as President Tinubu Sanctions and Appoints New Heads

In a decisive move aimed at elevating standards in Nigerian Civil Aviation, President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned and replaced key figures within the Aviation Ministry. Chief Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidential spokesman, announced on Wednesday that this action is part of the President’s commitment to enhancing consumer protection and promoting the wellbeing of passengers and stakeholders in the aviation sector.

Notable changes include the removal of Mr. Kabir Yusuf Mohammed as the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), with Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku taking over. Similarly, Mr. Tayib Adetunji Odunowo, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), has been replaced by Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk.

Furthermore, Engr. Akinola Olateru, the Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), has been succeeded by Mr. Alex Badeh Jr. Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET), has been replaced by Prof. Charles Anosike.

Capt. Alkali Mahmud Modibbo, the Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), has been replaced by Mr. Joseph Shaka Imalighwe in an acting capacity, pending the appointment of a substantive Rector.

Additionally, Capt. Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has been suspended to allow the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct an investigation into the activities of the suspended Director-General and other senior officials in the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority. Capt. Chris Najomo assumes office as the Acting Director-General immediately.

President Tinubu emphasizes the critical need for a world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory frameworks to reposition the sector in alignment with his Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the importance of prioritizing the safety, convenience, and comfort of the Nigerian people in all administrative activities across the aviation sector.
