Nationwide Strike: ECTS Free Transport Service Extended to February 10, 2024, Serving Edo Citizens, States MD Hauwa Dupe.Mrs Hauwa Dupe Ohikhuai, the Managing Director/CEO of Edo City Transport Services, has announced an extension of the free transport services initiated by State Governor Godwin Obaseki in October. The complimentary services will now continue until February 10, 2024.

Commending Governor Obaseki’s dedication to serving the people of Edo, Mrs. Hauwa emphasized that the extension aims to further alleviate the challenges faced by Edo residents amid the ongoing economic crisis.

Speaking to Journalists in her Benin City office, Mrs. Hauwa expressed the Governor’s genuine concern for the well-being of Edo citizens during challenging economic times. She highlighted the various initiatives, including the free transport services, as manifestations of the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of the residents.

“The Governor is deeply concerned about the well-being of Edo People during this period of economic challenges. He is making every effort to ensure that all Edo People and residents live above board,” stated Mrs. Hauwa.

She revealed that over 1,536,904 Edo residents have benefited from the free transport services, allowing them to save money for essential needs such as feeding, house rent, and school fees.

Commending the State Leadership of NLC, led by Olaye Odion, for permitting ECTS Buses to transport Edo citizens during the ongoing strike, Mrs. Dupe emphasized the significant financial savings for passengers.

“Edo People within this period have saved a substantial amount, which would have otherwise been spent on transportation. These savings can now be redirected to other essential areas like school fees, rent, and feeding,” she explained.

Mrs. Dupe expressed her satisfaction with the overwhelming public response, evident in the long queues at ECTS terminals. She attributed the increased usage to the fact that the transport service is free, sharing instances of families traveling twice a week, even as early as 5 am, to take advantage of the complimentary service with their spouses and children.
