The 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament Final: Edo Queens Vs Bayelsa Queens

The much-anticipated final of the 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament is set to take place on Wednesday, November 1st at Benin’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

In the semifinals, Edo Queens FC demonstrated their dominance on the field by defeating Remo Stars Ladies with a convincing scoreline of 3-0 at Western Boys College field. Osigwe Goodness was the star player for Edo Queens, scoring two goals in the first half which gave her team a significant advantage over Remo Ladies managed by Wemimo Matthews. It is worth noting that Remo Ladies had previously eliminated defending champions FC Robo of Lagos during the quarterfinals stage. Captain Abideen Suliyat sealed Edo Queen’s victory by converting a penalty kick after Ibrahim Hannah’s handball within the box during playtime.

Bayelsa Queens also showed their mettle in their semifinal match against Delta Queens at University of Benin Sports Complex, which culminated in a shootout (5-4) following barren minutes of action. Bayelsa Queens emerged victorious, securing their spot in the finals.

Edo Queens’ journey to the finals has been impressive, beginning with an opening game played at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium where they defeated Naija Ratels with an impressive scoreline (3-0). They went on to beat Remo Stars Ladies again (2-1) during group stages and secured another victory over Heartland Queens from Owerri (2-1) during quarterfinals before setting up another meeting with defeated Remo Star ladies.
