Obstruction of Benin-Agbor Road Causes Chaos for Commuters

The obstruction of the Benin-Agbor road, a popular route connecting Edo state to Agbor in Delta and other Eastern states, has persisted for four days due to protests by Ikpoba hill youths. This blockade has resulted in dire consequences for motorists and commuters alike. The once bustling thoroughfare now appears desolate, with lengthy vehicles precariously strewn on both sides of the road from around First Bank area up to the bypass axis.

Consequently, commuters are facing unwarranted difficulties as they have no choice but to trek long distances out of this tumultuous location. Some aggrieved commuters shared their experiences with The Champion Newspaper correspondent; an unidentified respondent disclosed that she walked all the way from 2 Sisters area to First Upstairs while carrying her load on her head and her child trudging along falling intermittently as they journeyed.

Motorists who were stranded at this spot also expressed their dissatisfaction; Ikechuku from Enugu State had been stuck there for four days with perishable goods that he was supposed to deliver. He implored Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to provide relief measures according to what the youths want so as to render the road passable.

Chairman Julius Osemwigie of Ikpoba Hill Youths Forum responded by acknowledging Governor Obaseki’s efforts thus far towards meeting their demands for palliatives on failed portions of the road until comprehensive rehabilitation can be done. Despite some miscreants blocking adjoining streets and extorting money from desperate motorists seeking access routes out of this troubled spot, these youths have remained orderly and well-behaved throughout this peaceful protest without any hoodlums hijacking it or causing mayhem by destroying or looting properties belonging innocent citizens in this area.

He thanked stranded drivers for joining them in ensuring a smooth process devoid of any criminal tendencies while urging everyone concerned (including drivers) exercise more patience since repairs would commence soon enough thanks largely because Governor Godwin is known for being a listening person who values his word above everything else. The driver has been of great help as they have actually motivated us in no small measure.
