1. Temilade Openiyi was born on 11 June 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria to a Nigerian mother and a British-Nigerian father. Shortly after her birth, she relocated from Nigeria to the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria at the age of five following her parents’ separation.
2. For her secondary education, Tems attended Dowen College while Monash South Africa was where she pursued tertiary education. During school days, she caught the attention of her music teacher who taught her how to play the piano. She honed singing skills by practicing with her brother who often accompanied with his guitar.
3. In 2018, Tems resigned from work in order to pursue a career in music production which led her into learning self-production techniques via YouTube tutorials. Her debut single “Mr Rebel” which was entirely produced by herself was released on July 18th, 2018.
4. On September 25th, 2020; Tems debuted with an extended play titled “For Broken Ears”, mainly produced by herself – one of its singles being “Damages”. It followed up as another hit track after “Try Me” hitting number one spot on Nigerian Apple Music chart.
5. Tems became the first female Nigerian artiste ever to win a Grammy Award when in collaboration with Future and Drake they won Best Melodic Rap Performance for their song “Wait for U”in year twenty-twenty-three (2023).
