Edo Schools Infrastructure intervention: January to October 2023 Over 336 Schools Revonated across the State.

The Edo State Government has successfully renovated more than 336 schools in the state, erected over 200 blocks of classrooms, and renovated 202 structures within the last ten months.

Additionally, numerous other schools have been earmarked for remodeling. Chris Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, confirmed this during a press briefing in Benin City. He emphasized that the government is committed to renovating all primary and junior secondary schools across the three senatorial districts of the state while prioritizing student and teacher welfare under its State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

Nehikhare made these remarks after a video on social media was circulated of a primary school in Ozalla Community located in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state. He clarified that although school renovations are being carried out gradually, this particular school had already been slated for renovation.

He refuted allegations that students were abandoned or forced to learn under poor conditions in dilapidated buildings at this institution. The commissioner restated his commitment to ensuring student and teacher welfare throughout Edo State.

According to data provided by SUBEB between January and October of this year alone, 336 schools benefited from their work thus far: they built 200 classroom blocks; renovated another 202 classroom blocks; provided 8,750 pieces of furniture (three seaters) for pupils; furnished six hundred 600 sets of furniture for teachers across various schools statewide; 41 new water projects as well as 210 new toilets specifically designed for basic education needs with sixteen thousand meters worth fences spanning 13 local councils completed along 27 different schools while also demolishing 19 mud-based schools which consisted 14 classroom blocks alongside 15 toilet facilities overall.
