Edo Residents Extend Gratitude to Governor Obaseki for Subsidy Removal Palliative: Free Transport Services Applauded.

Residents of Edo State are effusively praising Governor Godwin Obaseki for his laudable initiative of providing free transport services to all citizens who utilize Edo State Transport Services (ECTS). This compassionate effort is designed to alleviate the impact of subsidy removal.

As reported by The Crusaders Voice, the Edo City Transport Service initiated the free transport scheme on September 11, 2023, catering to both inter and intra-city passengers throughout the state.

Expressing their deep appreciation, beneficiaries like Madam Utinyen Itohan conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to Governor Obaseki for enabling their journeys, which would have been financially challenging due to the absence of funds.

“We are planning a burial during this period, and unfortunately, I didn’t have the 4,000 Naira needed to reach my destination. However, this free ride has made it possible for me to travel,” shared Madam Utinyen Itohan.

Another passenger, Mrs. Gloria Omorodion, also conveyed her thanks to the Governor, emphasizing that the money they saved on transportation can now be allocated to purchasing essential food items.

“I usually pay 4,000 Naira from Benin to Uzeba and another 4,000 Naira for the return journey. However, for the past three weeks, I’ve been enjoying free transport both ways. I believe Governor Obaseki is serving us well in this regard, and we are genuinely grateful.”

Passengers traveling along the Ekenwan Barrack route also expressed their appreciation for the free transport services.

Madam Abigail Omoroge extended her thanks to the Governor and urged him to continue providing free transport, particularly for women who are enduring the challenges brought about by the subsidy removal.

The Managing Director of Edo City Transport Services, Mrs. Dupe Uhikuai, revealed that the transport agency has facilitated the transportation of 706,398 passengers since September 11, including 14,344 passengers for inter-city travel. She lauded Governor Obaseki’s benevolent actions, emphasizing that he stands out as the only Governor in Nigeria mitigating the daily impact of fuel subsidy removal on the lives of Edo citizens.
