Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, was locked out of his office at the Government House in Benin, the state capital, on Monday morning, causing him to be stranded for over an hour.
Arriving at the Government House, he found the gate locked with chain and padlock, and was left without any official communication to relocate his office. The Deputy Governor and his aides were delayed for almost an hour before leaving, calling attention to the pertinent question of why he was locked out.
Sources reveal that the Deputy Governor and his boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki, have been in a power struggle over control of government affairs, as well as the state party machinery, all leading to such an unfortunate event. While no official statement has been released explaining the incident, this event adds to the ongoing political tensions in Edo State.
