When the private jet they were on, a Bombardier Global Express 6000 owned by Chief Adedeji Adeleke who is the father of singer Davido and the brother of Governor Adeleke. This occured just before takeoff at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on September 5, 2023.
Fortunately, they aborted takeoff, avoiding a potential catastrophe occurred at the domestic wing of the airport around 9 am as the jet was preparing for departure from Lagos to Abuja. The aircraft had Governor Adeleke and his team on board.
The cause of the engine issue was attributed to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) due to a bird nest in one of the engines. Sam Iwuajoku, the CEO of Executive Jets, the company that owns the hangar where the private jet was parked, explained that when aircraft are parked and not properly covered, birds can build nests, which can lead to high-temperature conditions and, in this case, an explosion. He noted that such incidents are not uncommon in Africa due to the presence of birds around.
