The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) recommends that teachers in Nigeria to engage in self-development and embrace technology to keep up with emerging global trends. This suggestion was made at the end of a two-day online conference for registered Nigerian teachers held between August 30 and 31, 2023 with the theme “Promoting Community of Practise among Nigerian Teachers for Effective Service Delivery.”

Emphasizing the importance of knowledge sharing among Nigerian teachers, TRCN urges tech-savvy individuals to support colleagues who may not be as technologically advanced by teaching them how to use basic digital tools effectively.

As such, it calls for the creation of an active platform where educators can exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn lessons from one another. This community would enhance job performance while promoting lifelong learning so that educators remain relevant in a fast-changing global landscape.

As part of TRCN’s recommendations read: “A vibrant community should be established amongst teachers wherein they can embrace technology and embark on both professional and personal development. Tech-savvy instructors should help their peers become more digitally literate by providing training opportunities.

“Rural areas require training hubs with reliable internet connections so that instructors have access to online resources. Solar-powered energy or other alternative power sources must be set up to ensure uninterrupted power supply. A mobile learning program should also be instigated alongside device loan programs which allow instructors to purchase smartphones or laptops.”

During an interview at the Uyo viewing centre, Mr Kufre Ita expressed gratitude towards the organisers but remarked that instructional media had been overlooked despite its significance towards achieving educational goals; he added improvisation could prove useful when employing this medium because “it is one of the things that will make learning easy.”

Francisca Ezekiel shared her joy regarding the seminar but regretted governmental failure in providing dedicated centres where educators could receive further training: “I am concerned about being encouraged creatively yet innovatively without backup; we need a designated place for upgrading ourselves instead of simply saying go upgrade yourself.” She further noted how many rural area instructors lacked awareness regarding available upgrades due to insufficient information dissemination methods.
